Betty J. Winton August 6, 1931 - April 22, 2016 Betty J. Winton of Waco passed away Friday, April 22, 2016. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Jim Coston officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Betty was born August 6, 1931 in West, Texas to Ivey (“Butch”) and Alice Webb. After early graduation from high school she worked at Swift & Co for a number of years. Betty married Jim Winton in 1952 and began her life with him in Waco. As mother to two children, she was active in their school activities, serving as PTA president on several occasions. For many years she was a Tupperware representative, and also volunteered for community activities such as canvassing for the decennial census and serving as an observer for school classrooms. As a member of Calvary Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School for many years, led Girls Auxiliary groups, and helped manage many church outreach activities. When her children reached high school age in 1974 Betty went to work at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital, first as an EKG technician and then as medical secretary to the cardiology unit of the hospital. She remained on staff there for forty years, retiring in 2014. Her entire life was defined by her passion for helping others. Her vivacity and ebullient spirits were admired and appreciated by all who knew her. Betty is survived by her husband James G. Winton, her daughter Donna Winton of North Carolina, her son Jim Winton and wife Debbie of Hewitt, her granddaughters Ashley Broom and husband Dustin of Amarillo, and Brooke Winton of College Station, and her great granddaughter Hallie Cate Broom; also her brothers Bobby Webb and wife Joyce of Lorena, and John Abe Webb and wife Anne of Allen, TX; her sisters Billie Malone of Waco, and Shirley Bailey and husband Wayne of Lubbock; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Butch Webb; her mother Alice Webb nee Kent; sisters Ruby Cox, Virginia Anderson, Marie Miller, Francis Craig, and Faye Hurtt; and brother Hulon Webb. Pallbearers are nephews Gary Malone, Kent Craig, Rick Webb, Kevin Craig, Jeff Bailey, Keith Craig, Butch Webb, and grandson-in-law Dustin Broom. The family requests that any memorials for Betty be made to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Providence Hospice.
