Bill Gamvetas Bill Nick Gamvetas passed away on September 8, 2003, at a local hospital. A prayer service will be held at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey at 1124 Washington Avenue at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 9th. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 10th at Oakwood Cemetery officiated by Reverend Theodore Tsitsilianos. Bill was born on December 15, 1915, to Nick and Victoria Gamvetas in Athens, Greece. His family came to America while he was a young child and settled in Waco. He was a graduate of the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, where he played football and was in the Military Corps. He worked as a machinist in California during World War II and worked for Hammond Industries and the Perry Company in Waco before his retirement. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Bill is survived by a sister, Mary Klaras of Waco; nieces: Vicki Klaras of Waco, Patricia Klaras of Austin, and Elaine Dupre of Houston; nephews: George Klaras and his wife Wanda and son Morgan of Cedar Hill; Stephen Agalou and Nick Agalou of Dallas, and Cousins: Nick Klaras and Estelle Klaras of Waco and Pat Grammas of Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his brother Gus Gamvetas and his sister Evangeline Agalou. The family wishes to thank the staff at the former Regis/St. Elizabeth and the staff of St. Catherine Center for their loving care and support. The family has requested that memorials in Bill’s honor be sent to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church or the Klaras Children’s Center.
