Billie Cook McClain was born to Willie and Allen Cook, at Kings Daughters Hospital in Temple, Texas. She attended schools in Waco and Brownwood, Texas, and graduated from Waco High School in 1946. After high school she attended 4C Business College in Waco, and worked as a legal secretary. Her family considered her a Baylor Alumni by choice, her skills assisted her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and both granddaughters, in getting Baylor degrees. On March 5, 1949 she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Billy Gordon McClain. After some years, the two were blessed with a daughter, Dana. Billie felt blessed to be able to retire in 1966 to stay at home and be a full-time mother and homemaker. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Waco where she loved attending Bob Patterson’s Sunday school class, especially when he was answering someone’s question about what Heaven would be like. She was a charter member of the Waco Legal Secretaries Association, and she served on the Board of Historic Waco Foundation where she also served as Fort House Chairman in 1988. She loved traveling, playing Bridge, following Baylor sports, sewing, and various other arts and crafts including china painting. She was blessed with many friends and opportunities to travel most of the places she wanted to go both near and far. She was devoted to her family and would put all else aside to assist a family member or attend a function, never missing her granddaughters’ dance recital or ballgame halftime performances. Through the years she acquired many nice things but considered her faith and family as her most valuable assets. Billie C. McClain was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Billy Gordon McClain; her parents, Willie Beatrice Mitchell Cook and Allen Enloe Cook; and her sister Maxine Cook Lewis and brother-in-law, Harold Lewis. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Dana McClain Langley and Kenneth Langley of Waco, TX, her grandchildren, Renee Langley Salai and husband, Mike Salai of North Hollywood CA., Sarah Langley Robins and husband, Justin Robins of Waco, TX, and grandogs, Jasmine, Tango, Cleo, and Leia.
