Billie Jean Landfair

August 25, 1922 — February 6, 2016

Billie Jean Landfair August 25, 1922 - February 6, 2016 Billie Jean Landfair of Waco passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at St. Catherine Center. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, at First United Methodist Church of Waco with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 12, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Billie was born August 25, 1922, in Winchester, Arkansas, to John and Clara Herrington. Married on March 7, 1942 to James Ballard Landfair, Billie and Jimmy followed where the Air Force led them until Jimmy’s retirement in 1961. Billie and Jimmy settled in Waco, and became active members at First United Methodist Church and in the Wesleyan Workers Sunday School Class, where they both made dear, life-long friends. She liked nothing more than participating in the countless rummage sales and chili suppers to raise funds to support her church. Billie also enjoyed her time spent in retail sales, and helped many a bride select that perfect dress while working at Goldstein-Migel. Her attention to every detail was always appreciated, and she did her best to ensure that her customers were happy and satisfied. Billie’s passion above all was her family. She never hesitated to pick up the phone to check in with the Herringtons, Landfairs, and Powells. She was an interested, caring cheerleader for all. She and Jimmy both worked hard to make sure that their daughter would have the college experience that they never had. To her daughter, she was friend, confidante, and counselor…the best there ever was. At the top of her list, however, were her grandchildren. She and Jimmy were enthusiastic, supportive grandparents who made it a point to be present in every aspect of their lives. Her advice was always the wisest and best, and she was proud of each and every accomplishment. She was without a doubt the best grandma there ever was. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Ballard Landfair and one son, Ronald James Landfair. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Powell and husband, Gerald, of Waco; grandchildren, Colin Powell and Calley Powell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Wilene Landfair of Richardson, TX and Tommy and Barbara Landfair of Little Rock, AR; as well as numerous much loved nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Austin Avenue United Methodist Church and Providence Hospice. Special thanks to Billie’s amazing caregivers, Petra Brown, the Fourth Floor Team at St. Catherine’s, Providence Hospice, Dr. Artie Sudan and Dr. Charles Shoultz, Jr. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our “Memorial Guestbook” at www.WHBfamily.com.
