Billie Ruth Walker December 6, 1932 November 12, 2012 Billie Ruth Hurst Walker, 79, of Waco, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 16, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Snowden officiating. There will be a private family burial. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, November 15, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. She was born on December 6, 1932, in Chireno, Texas to parents Roy and Wilma Hurst. She graduated from Baylor University with a double major in English and French in three years followed with a Masters in English. Though she had an automobile accident almost 23 years ago that changed many things for her, it never changed her indomitable spirit, her outgoing personality and her great love of her family. She also loved her First Baptist Church and was an active member for 42 years; many of them spent volunteering in the newborn nursery. She was involved in many community activities including the Historic Waco Foundation, where she was Chair of Christmas on the Brazos, Baylor Athenean/Kappa Alumnae groups, the Medical Auxiliary, the Waco Literary Club and her Monday Bible Study Group. Her obituary would not be complete without reminding all of her great love of cooking and entertaining including her famous mint brownies before her accident. Although she said she lost her cooking gene, she never lost her eating gene and her love and great appreciation for good food. And last, but for sure not least, if there was ever a bigger Baylor Women's and Men's Basketball fan, her family doubts it. So in honor and love for Billie/Mom/Nana we all say "Sic 'em Bears!!" and we'll see you up yonder. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Jackson K. Walker; daughter, Jennifer Walker; son, Brad Walker and wife, Lisa; son, Jim Walker and wife, Marie; grandchildren, Jordan Walker, Samantha and Caroline Walker and twin grandsons, Austin and Christian Walker; and sister, Jean English and brother, Jim Hurst.
