Billy Dean Edwards

February 2, 1931 — April 12, 2021

Early in the evening of April 12, 2021, Billy Dean Edwards peacefully walked into the arms of our Lord. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 16, at Waco Memorial Park with Rick Aguilar officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 15, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Billy was born on February 2, 1931, to William Dean and Catherine Edwards. Loved by all for his playful and friendly spirit, Billy was active in baseball and basketball at Grand Saline High School from where he graduated in 1949. Soon after graduation, Billy began working for TXU and remained a loyal employee for 40 years. Billy met the love of his life, Peggy, at a baseball game and they were married shortly after on May 14,1955. The love and devotion they shared was admired by all for 64 years. Together they raised their daughter, Donna, and their nephew, Garland. Children were always a delight to Billy. Laughter, games, and pure fun were always part of family gatherings. Billy always had a warm smile and his greatest impact was the kindness he showed to all. His strong faith in Jesus was evident in his daily walk. Billy loved the outdoors and sports of all kinds. He actively took in golf, gardening, and fly fishing. Spending time on the mountains of Colorado was one of the joys of his life. He was drawn to the rippling of the streams and the majesty of the vast range of snow-topped mountains. Billy will be missed beyond measure. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Peggy Murphy Edwards; his parents, William Dean and Catherine Edwards; nephew, Garland Murphy; brother-in-law, Homer Latta; and nephew, Martin Dean Latta. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Edwards McKethan and husband, Mark, of Waco; granddaughters, Amanda McKethan of Waco, and Alicia McKethan Danforth and husband, A.J., and their children, Lillian, Madeline, Imogen, and Samuel Dean of McKinney; sister, Nell Edwards Latta; niece, Sharon Brown Murphy; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. In light of the miracle he received as a child, memorials should be made to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, scottishriteforchildren.org. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
