PLEDGER, BOYD William Boyd Pledger, age 79, of South Bosque died Monday, December 2, 2002 at his residence. Services will be held at 10am Thursday, December 5 at First Woodway Baptist Church with Rev. B. L. Davis and Nolan Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Creek Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Wednesday, December 4 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. William Boyd Pledger was born February 10, 1923, to Jim and Maudie Pledger on a farm near McGregor. He went to Highland School in Ocee Community. He married Blanche Byford July 26, 1941. Boyd served in the Armed Forces during World War II in Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was ranked a Staff Sergeant and earned several citations. After the war, he became a carpenter and moved to the South Bosque Community in 1960. He worked on many commercial buildings, including Lake Air Shopping Mall. In 1968, he formed his own company known as Pledger Construction Company. After retiring, he began making Christmas decorations and with his wife, decorated their yard and played Santa Claus to thousands of children and adults during the Christmas season. He served on the Midway School Board and the Harris Creek Cemetery Association Board of Directors. Over the past few years, he spent many hours watching over the cemetery grounds. He was a member of Harris Creek Baptist Church and instrumental in the early rebuilding of the church facilities and grounds upkeep. Boyd Pledger was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, Sherry and Charlotte, and grandson Chris Pledger. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Blanche; son, Barry Joe and wife, Pam; grandson, Jonathon Pledger; and his dog, Johnny. Also survived by sister in law; Lois Sanders, who thought of him as a brother, and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Tom Henderson, Don Taylor, Ross Sandhoff, Randall Chamblee, Craig Graf and Monty Carrigan.
