Clapp, Brownie Brownie Marie West Clapp, 88, of Corpus Christi, graduated from earthly life, Saturday, May 21, 2005 at a Waco nursing home. A memorial service will be Friday, May 27 at 3:30 PM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey funeral home. Mrs. Clapp was born November, 30, 1916 in Jackson, Tennessee. She became an accomplished pianist, entering Union University Jackson at age 16 and graduating summa cum laude at age 20. As the volunteer pianist in dozens of churches in four states over a 69 year period, thousands sang and listened to the soft, strong, sweeping, complex melodies her talented hands and heart created when she sat at the piano. She held nothing back of her great talent. She married Joseph Carlos Clapp, Jr. in 1938. Together they embraced the Christian ministry in the educational and pastoral fields. They moved from Missouri to Texas in 1964 when Joseph accepted a position in the administration of the University of Corpus Christi and subsequently became its fourth president in 1966 until his sudden death in January, 1968. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother and her husband. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Capp and husband, Richard of Waco; granddaughters, Catherine Capp-Hays and husband, Greg of Waco and Amanda Green and husband, Kealy of College Station; great granddaughters, Morgan Elizabeth Green and Abigail Lynn Green; two nephews, Robert West, Jr. of Nashville and Fred Thomas West of Lawton, Oklahoma.
