Burkett Edison Massey February 13, 1920 - November 14, 2007 Burkett Edison Massey, age 87, of Waco passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at the Temple VA Hospital. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Chaplain Curtis Holland and Mitch Parrish officiating. Burial will follow at Stanford Chapel Cemetery. Burkett was born February 13, 1920 in Mullin, TX to A. T. and Stella Mae Massey. Burkett loved God and his country; he retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and a Decorated War Veteran of two wars. He helped defend his country in WWII aboard ship. He answered the call of duty again in Vietnam aboard a River Patrol Boat. He received many decorations and citations during a quarter century of service for God and his country in the U.S. Navy. In 1939 he married the love of his life, Mildred Hulsey. Even his final few days with us his face would light up when she would enter his hospital room. They have been married 68 years. He loved his family; taking his grandsons, Bill, Gregg, Jeff, Bobby and Burke hunting and fishing, and teaching them other skills and sharing life’s lessons with them. He always made time to enjoy his granddaughter, Cristy and spend special time with her. He cherished his six great grandchildren, Ross, Arden, Trey, Christopher, Cade and Lauren, spending time with them and showing them special attention. His life was all about family. He was preceded in death by grandson, Jeffery Michael Wetterman; his brother, Joe Massey; his sister, Mae Kardash and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Massey; his daughter, Della Wetterman and husband, Bill, Sr. and their children, Bill, Jr. and Iwife, Lex of McKinney; Gregg Wetterman and wife, Jennie of Waco; his son, Bobby G. Massey and wife, Vicki, and children, Bobby Massey, Jr., and wife, Becky, Burkett Massey, Cristy Massey Prud’homme of Shreveport, LA. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Ross, Arden, Trey and Christopher Wetterman; Cade Massey and Lauren Prud’homme. Pallbearers are Bill Wetterman, Jr., Gregg Wetterman, Ross Wetterman, Bobby Massey, Bobby Massey, Jr., Burke Massey, Trey Wetterman and Christopher Wetterman.
