GARNER DUB C. M. Dub Garner, Jr., age 75 of Waco died Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at his residence. Services will be held at 11:30am Saturday, January 31 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Dr. John Collier officiating. A Masonic Service will follow at Concord Cemetery, Waco, Texas. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Friday, January 30 at the funeral home. Dub was born in San Antonio on January 17, 1929 to Cecil M. Garner, Sr. and Almeda Goodnight Garner. He married Ellen E. “Penny” Bryant on August 1, 1968. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Waco. He was a veteran and served in the U. S. Navy. He was the owner of Garner Plumbing Company of Waco for many years. Dub enjoyed driving his motor home with Penny and his beagle “Millie” and towing his Harley Davidson. He traveled in all 50 states of the United States, provinces of Canada, Mexico and the Baja either in the motor home or on his Harley. He always said “riding his Harley, enjoying all the sights in our beautiful country, was the ultimate in enjoying life”. He was active in Masonic Fraternities, being a member of Waco Lodge #92, Waco; life member of Waco Scottish Bodies, member of York Rite Bodies; member of Karem Shrine serving as Potentate in 1990. He was an active Shriner and was colonel of Karem Motor Escorts in 1985, President of the Texas Shrine Motor Corps in 1985, President of the International Association of Shrine Motor Corps in 1989 and a current member of Karem Motor Escorts. He was a Past Patron of Walter Baldwin Chapter 929 Order of the Eastern Star. He has served Imperial Shrine of North American in various capacities being an emeritus member of the Colorado Corporation and served many years on the Marshal’s Committee becoming an emeritus member this year. He also served on the Board of Governors of the Shriners Hospital for Children in Houston becoming an emeritus member. He was also a member of the Royal Order of the Jesters and was serving as 4th Vice-President of Jesters on Wheels which consists mostly of Harley Davidson Motorcycle riders. His favorite pastime was riding his Harley anywhere, anytime. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William Garner. He is survived by his wife Ellen E. “Penny” Garner; sons, David R. Garner and wife, Marlene and John Bryant and wife, Jada; brother, John N. Garner and wife, Ruth all of Waco; twelve grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be members of the Karem Motor Escorts. Honorary pallbearers are Past Potentates of Karem Shrine. Penny and the family would like to thank Providence Hospice for their help in the time of need. A special thank you and sincere appreciation to Dee Dee who listened with an understanding heart.
