Carey Ann Dalton of Waco, Texas, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 with her family at her side. Her memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, at First Presbyterian Church with the Dr. Leslie King officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Carey was born July 5, 1940, in Meridian, Mississippi, to Anne and William Carey Sanford, Jr. She graduated from Baylor University in 1961. She taught special education students for several different schools in Waco for many years. Carey then pursued a career in real estate before becoming the Director of the Arthritis Foundation where she began the fundraiser known as The Margarita and Salsa Festival and The Jingle Bell Run. She was an avid gardener, loved reading, walking, cooking, and entertaining guests as well as spending time with her family and friends who she loved dearly. Carey was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she volunteered for many church activities in Waco. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, James Dalton; two daughters, Laura and husband, Joel Patterson, MD, Frances and husband, Horacio Lucero, Jr. DDS, son, Carroll W. Sturgis III and wife, Gabriela, DDS; two step-sons, Daniel B. Dalton and wife, Brandi and Steven H. Dalton and wife, Staci; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter; and her brother, A.D. Sanford and wife, Sallie. The family would like to thank Dr. Annie Chang with Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital for her care and amazing compassion. They would also like to thank Doris and Emily Ballard for their help and assistance and the many hospice nurses from Providence Hospice Care, specially Michelle Chinn, RN.
