Carl B. Riherd

Carl B. Riherd October 23, 1919 - December 24, 2010 Carl B. Riherd of Robinson passed away Friday, December 24, 2010 at his residence. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carl Freeto officiating. Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December, 30, at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Carl was born October 23, 1919 in Harbin, Texas to John Bell Riherd and Rosa Belle Kiker Riherd. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1937 and McMurry College in 1941, where he was a member of Ko Sari Social Club. He served in the Army Air Corps during 1941 to 1945 as an aircraft maintenance instructor, pilot and a glider pilot. After his service he worked in Abilene, where he met his wife, DeAlva Watkins; and they married June 3, 1948. He taught school in Sweetwater and then was recalled to active service during the Korean Conflict. In 1979 he retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a Major. After the service he relocated to Big Spring and worked at Cosden Oil and Chemical Company as a quality control chemist from 1954-1983. While in Big Spring, they were very active in the First United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities. They moved to Waco in 1994 and joined Central United Methodist Church in Waco. His hobbies were woodworking, carpentry and traveling, touring a great part of the world. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, DeAlva Riherd, in 2005; son, Joe Donald Riherd in 1980 and grandson, Dustin Riherd in 2010. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Williams and Richard of Robinson; son, John Riherd and Jan of Carson City, Nevada; grandsons, Matthew Williams and Stephanie; Jonathan Williams and April; granddaughters, Nicole Methner and Joe; Morgan Riherd and Mike; great-grandson, Kyson. Also surviving is his sister, Melba Menninger; and nephews, Jim and John Garner. The family wants to express their appreciation to the Galilean Sunday School Class, Meals on Wheels and neighbors, Larry and Grace Obr.
