CARLENE SMITH Carlene Smith, age 79 of Waco, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Central Christian Church with Dr. Steven Mansen officiating. Private graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Smith was born on February 25, 1924 in Floydada, Texas. She graduated from Waco High. She married W. D. Doyle Smith on March 14, 1948 in Waco. She was a lifetime member of Central Christian Church, where she was active in the Crusaders Sunday School Class and Christian Women’s Fellowship. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Carl T. and Lottie Bell Stevens; one sister, Emily Jane Haile; and son-in-law, Craig Denny. Survivors include her husband; daughter, Jennifer Denny and Tom Mason of Wichita, Kansas; sons, Michael D. Smith and wife Dixie of Waco, and Roger C. Smith and wife Pam of Waco; grandchildren, Nicholas and Christopher Denny, and Niki and Justin Smith; sister, Edi Claire Jacks of Waco; and several nieces and nephews.
