Carroll Leon Webb, Jr., of Waco, passed away August, 13, 2017. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Carroll was born April 7, 1923, to Carroll L. Webb, Sr., and Ottie Nowlin Webb, in Vivian, Louisiana. He spent most of his life in Dallas, attended Highland Park High School and was a charter member of Park Cities Baptist Church in 1939. He enrolled in Baylor in September 1941, three months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Carroll played trumpet in Baylor Band and became member of the Nose Brotherhood. World War II interrupted his attendance at Baylor. While in military training, he spent his sophomore year at Louisiana State University and junior year at Tulane University. From Tulane Carroll went to Navy Officer Training School in Plattsburg, N.Y. and received commission as Ensign in May 1944. He served 14 months in the Pacific as a communication officer on an attack troop transport carrying 800 Marines. Carroll participated in the battles of lwo Jima and Okinawa and took the first occupation troops to Japan following the end of war. He was honorably discharged as LTJG in March 1946. He returned to Baylor in March 1946 and received his BBA degree in 1947. In March 1948 Carroll joined the Dallas office of the international public accounting firm of what is now Deloitte & Touche, and retired in May 1985, after 37 ½ years, the last 10 years as Partner-in-Charge. Before retirement he served as Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and as Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Hankamer School of Business. Carroll’s first wife, Frances, after 37 ½ years of marriage, died of cancer January, 1982. Some time later he met and married Aline, a Baylor grad, as are three of their children. In 1992, because of their love for Baylor, they moved to Waco. They became actively involved at Baylor, both academically and athletically; and active members of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, where Aline's uncle was the fourth pastor from 1911- 1918. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Frances Rogers Webb; a son, David Lawrence Webb; and his sister, Grace Moreau. Carroll is survived by his wife, Aline Groner Webb; his daughter, Carol Anne Rodgers and husband, Van; his son, Russell Webb; step-daughter, Catherine Trice Foster and husband, Greg; granddaughter, Kristene Webb Lalonde and husband, Don; grandchildren, Erin Mannix and husband, Kevin, Lane Brannan and wife, Stefanie, Jeremy Webb and wife, Sheena, and Tony Webb and wife, Katie; great grandchildren, Harleigh Mannix, McLane Mannix, Brannan Mannix, Etta Brannan, Amelia Brannan, Olivia Brannan, Don Lalonde III, Ellie Webb and Miles Webb, and brother, Douglas Webb. Pallbearers will be Lane Brannan, Kevin Mannix, Jeremy Webb, Tony Webb, Don Lalonde and Greg Foster. Jointly with Deloitte, the Webbs have an accounting scholarship of substantial amount and are actively involved in fund raising as a director of the Baylor Bear Foundation. Memorials may be made to the Deloitte-Carroll Webb Accounting Scholarship Fund-Baylor University or to the Baylor Bear Foundation.
