Casey Garner July 26, 1916 - July 21, 2007 Casey Garner, 90, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully in the presence of family members on July 21, 2007, in Austin, Texas. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Michael Fielding officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey.Casey was born in Moody, Texas on July 26, 1916 and grew up in Moody where he met his life long companion and wife of more than 70 years, Ruby Fay White Garner. Casey lived most of his life in Waco, Texas, and spent his later years in Fort Worth, Houston and Austin, Texas, near his family. Casey spent his childhood in Moody and graduated from Moody High School. On January 10, 1937, Casey and Ruby, along with Doris and Paul Alexander, were married in a double wedding ceremony. The Garners and the Alexanders remained life long friends, celebrating many wedding anniversaries together. Casey served in the U. S. Army in World War II and was stationed in Europe. In 1945, Casey began his career with the U. S. Postal Service until his retirement. After retirement Casey and Ruby traveled frequently with friends and family. Casey was an avid sports fan who loved the Baylor Bears, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Houston Astros. Casey attended the first Baylor home football game at Floyd Casey Stadium in 1950 and attended every home game until the 2000 season. Casey was a member of Seventh & James Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Casey was a wonderful husband and loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed all of the activities of his children, Karen and Steve, as well as his grandsons, Matt, Mark, Michael, and Max. Casey enjoyed coaching youth baseball and basketball and was a high school and college football referee for many years. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Arnold and Lora Garner, and his brother, Layton Garner. Casey is survived by his wife, Ruby Garner, his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Leon Teague and his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathy Garner. He is also survived by his grandsons, Matt Chaney and his wife, Becky, of Austin, Texas; Mark Chaney and his wife, Kara, of Fort Worth, Texas, Michael Chaney of Fort Worth, Texas, and Max Garner of Austin, Texas, his great-grandchildren, Madison and Jackson Chaney, his sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Pat Patterson, his nieces, Marilyn Doherty and her husband, Chuck, LeeAnn Brooks and her husband John, and his nephew, Michael Patterson, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers are Matt Chaney, Mark Chaney, Michael Chaney, Max Garner, Leon Teague and John Brooks.
