Dr. Cecil G. Edwards, Sr. August 28, 1929 December 27, 2008 Dr. Cecil G. Edwards, Sr., a loving husband, father and physician went home to be with his Lord early on Saturday, December 27th. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Waco, at 5th and Webster at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30th, followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 29. Dr. Edwards, retired Medical Director of Health and Counseling at Baylor University, was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Simmesport, LA. He served in the U. S. Army in 1946 and 1947, and graduated from LSU Medical School in 1955. He did an internship at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado, after which, he served in the U. S. Air Force until 1963. During his Air Force service he finished a residency in Internal Medicine at Tulane in 1959 and served in the U.S.A.F.E. hospitals in Germany and Florida from 1961-1963. Dr. Edwards married Marjorie Eggleston, his wife of 56 years, in 1952. He was Medical Director at a state hospital in Jackson, LA, and in private practice in Crowley, LA for five years before coming to Waco in 1969. He served on the faculty at Baylor Hospital in Houston, the Family Practice residency faculty in Waco, and retired in 1994 after serving 25 years as the Medical Director at the Baylor University Health Center. He taught, cared for and counseled countless people during his lifetime. He taught a Sunday School class for many years at First Baptist Church, Waco, and served there as Chairman of Deacons from 1984-86. He is dearly loved and honored by his family and will be sorely missed. Dr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents, John and Verna Edwards, his son, John J. Edwards of Dallas, and his brother, John J. Edwards of Houston. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; son Cecil, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Dallas; son Arthur and wife, Peggy, of Garland; son Timothy of Houston, daughter, Susan Findley and husband, Steve, of Waco; daughter-in-law, Martha Edwards, of Dallas; fourteen grandchildren; brother, Eumee P. Edwards of Plaquemine, LA, and several nephews and nieces. Memorials may be made to the Missions program at First Baptist Church of Waco or the Cecil and Marjorie Edwards Scholarship fund c/o Truett Seminary at Baylor University.
