Chancelor Ross King

Chancelor Ross King, beloved son of Gala Howell King of Woodway and Todd King of College Station, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 23, 2017. A 2016 graduate of Lorena High School, Chance played offensive guard for the Lorena Leopards and was voted homecoming king during his senior year. Following graduation, he attended McLennan Community College and was planning to attend Sam Houston State University in January. Chance is most remembered for his huge heart and deep love for his Lord, family, friends, and life; it was in all of these that he found the greatest joy. In fact, he was able to find joy and exude true goodness in everything that he did. Known for his kind spirit and care for others, he never complained and was a servant to both his family and his friends. Chance had a quiet spirit but a giant personality and presence. As a result, people were drawn to his innate genuineness. As a close friend stated, “Chance was singlehandedly one of the most funny, respectful, and humble guys I have ever met. His compassion and care of others was something I truly admired. His ability to light up the room was one of his astonishing qualities and one for which he will forever be remembered. He was not only my close friend. He was my brother.” Additionally, Chance’s warmth and kindness lead him to greatly enjoy working with children. He spent the last two summers working at the Academy for Creative Learning, and he also assisted in the third grade Sunday School Class each Sunday at Harris Creek Baptist Church, at the request of the youth minister. He adored all animals, especially his beloved dogs. One of Chance’s many gifts was his artistic talent. He was an incredible and talented artist who was passionate about drawing. Furthermore, he was a skilled photographer who loved working with filters. His friends say that even his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were works of art. Chance was a young man with many interests, gifts, and loves. His friends noted his passion for Reese’s Pieces on Nutella, his ability to spin a football on one finger, and his incredible voice imitation skills. But, most of all, it was this young man’s heart of gold, love of life, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and faith that defined him. He was preceded in death by Earl Frank Howell and Mary Sams Howell, his maternal grandfather and grandmother, and Elijah King, his paternal grandfather. He is survived by his mother, Gala Howell King; his father, Todd King; Hobby Howell and wife, Krista Meek Howell, his maternal uncle and aunt; Nancy Hecht, his paternal grandmother; cousins and good friends, Hob and Clark Howell; and many, many dear friends. The celebration of his life will be Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 10:30 am at Harris Creek Baptist Church in McGregor, Texas. It will be led by Pastor Brady Herbert and Youth Minister, Derek Davidson, who will be assisted by Chance’s friends and family. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. The pallbearers will be Ryan Austin, Davis Johnston, Hob Howell, Clark Howell, Sergio Juarez, Harrison Childs, Preston Hughes, Kevin Barker and Lauren Austin. Honorary Pallbearers, Tanner Underwood and Lorena High School Class of 2016. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Harris Creek Baptist Church.
