Charlene Spitzenberger October 1, 1924 January 28, 2014 Charlene Schulze Spitzenberger, 89, of McGregor, Texas, left her earthly home to be reunited with her loved ones in God's Kingdom on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Services to celebrate her life will be held 11:30 a.m., Monday, February 3, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 800 North New Road, Waco, Texas. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Charlene was born October 1, 1924, to Carl Wilhelm and Ida Rosa Schulze in Pottsville, Texas, where she spent her entire childhood. After graduating from Pottsville High School, she married Arthur Henry Spitzenberger, Sr., on July 24, 1943. Arthur and Charlene resided in Hamilton, Texas, until they moved to McGregor, in the 50s, where they raised their three children, Wanda Mae, Arthur, Jr., and Sandra Kay. Charlene worked many years as a dispatcher for the McGregor Police Department. In the early 70s Charlene decided it was time for a career change and began working at the Waco Center for Youth as a dorm parent for underprivileged and disadvantaged youth. Her love of children didn't end there. After her retirement, she then volunteered for the various youth programs at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Charlene was a charter member of the Nu Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and in her later years became a member of the McGregor Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, holding numerous offices in each group throughout the years. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; and her three siblings, Mildred Bubert, Willis Schulze and Leland Schulze. Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Wanda Stevens and Sandy Cocek and her husband, Ken; grandchildren, Diana Cross, Jay Stevens, Steven and Christopher Cocek; great-grandchildren, Shaun and Lindsay Jackson, Chelsea Stevens, and Michelle, Dakota and Kenneth Cocek.
