CHARLES VARNELL Charles Clayton Varnell, 96, of Waco, died Sunday February 17, 2002 in an Austin hospital. Services will be 1:30pm Wednesday February 20, 2002 at WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Fran Porter will officiate. The family will receive friends 6-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Varnell was born November 29, 1905 in Bell County to James C. and Frances Victoria Varnell, where he was reared and educated. He had been a resident of Waco over 50 years. He married Elizabeth Fitzgerald, the mother of his children, February 16, 1936. She preceded him in death March 16, 1984. He married Eva Jeanette Nichols November 23, 1985. She preceded him in death January 30, 2002. He was in the Hardware business for many years retiring from Waco Hardware Co. in 1983. Mr. Varnell had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1949. He was also a member of James H. Lockwood Masonic Lodge #1343. He was preceded in death by one Grandson Andrew Christopher Varnell, in 1977. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Heartland Healthcare Center & Seton N.W. Hospital in Austin.
