Charles East

August 9, 1917 — June 26, 2003

EAST, CHARLES Charles East, age 85 of Waco died Thursday, June 26, 2003 at a local nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30pm Saturday, June 28, 2003 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Dr. L. L. Morriss and Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Friday, June 27 at the funeral home. Charlie was born August 9, 1917 in Alice, Texas. He was the son of J.T. East and Irene Dubose East Flaugherty. In 1939, he graduated from Texas A & M Kingsville with a B.B.A. degree in accounting. Charlie was listed as a Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. He was also the permanent class president for his class. During WWII, Charlie served in the U. S. Navy as a lieutenant. He was a former Texas Ranger, a former Mason, and a former Director for Junior Achievement. He received an award for outstanding director for his work with Junior Achievement in New Orleans, Louisiana. For 39 years, Charlie worked for Exxon-Mobile as a manager in the accounting department. He was an ordained Baptist deacon. Charlie and Etta were members of Columbus Ave. Baptist Church. Survivors include wife, Etta East of Waco; daughters, Jane East Malaise and husband, Bob of College Station, Joye East Bone and husband, Garry of Waco, and Jean East Day and husband, Doug of Arlington; grandchildren, Michelle Malaise Cameron and husband, Keith, Chuck Malaise and wife, Devin, Rebecca Bone, Russell Bone, Dr. Michael Day, and Laura Day; great grandchildren, Sutton and Sloane Cameron; and cousin, Jerry Curtis. Pallbearers will be Glen Gary, Jack Gary, Kenneth Brittain, Britt Nelson, Terry Nelson, Joe Averitt, Kip Averitt, and Kyle Averitt. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Nelson, Chuck Caldwell, Mike O’Reilly, J.E. Willingham, Marvin Brenner, Roy Baze, and Percy Tate. Memorials may be made to Columbus Ave. Baptist Church Youth Mission Fund. For the last 14 months, Charlie was a resident of Royal Manor Nursing Home in Hewitt.
