Charles Herring Dodd

November 27, 1950 — February 3, 2022

Reverend Charles H. Dodd, 71, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at home. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, February, 16, 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Reverend Paul Sands will officiate a celebration of Charles’ life on Thursday, February 17, at 2:00 p.m. at First Woodway Baptist Church. Charles was born in San Angelo, Texas, November 27, 1950, to William Herring and Dorothy Virginia Hall Dodd. He spent his formative years in Benjamin, Texas, before moving to Crowell, where he graduated from Crowell High School. He attended Baylor University in Waco, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. He also studied at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth where earned a Master of Religious Education. Charles married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jan Welch, in May 1972. Charles, best know to family and friends as Charlie, felt called to lifelong ministry and truly had a servant heart. His desire to serve Jesus was evident to all that knew him! His greatest loves were Jesus, family, friends, and serving others. Charlie served on staff at five Baptist churches throughout the course of his forty-eight-year ministry. He spent the first thirty-two years in youth ministries at First Baptist Georgetown, Texas; First Baptist Temple, Texas; Northwest Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and First Baptist Church Midland, Texas and retired from ministry as Congregational Care Pastor in 2018 from First Woodway Baptist Church, Woodway, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include, his wife, Jan Dodd of Woodway; son, Ryan Dodd and wife, Kate and their daughters Andi, Brynn, Charleigh and Darby of Libertyville, Illinois.; daughter, Kristen Dodd and son, Jaxon, of Plano, Texas; son, Jordan Dodd and wife, Emily, and their son, Luke, and daughter, Dolly, of San Angelo, Texas; sister, Debra Hart of Brownwood, Texas; nephew, Sergeant First Class Eric Hart, U.S. Army, and numerous cousins. The family would like to thank Visiting Angels and Bluebonnet Hospice for their attentive care.
