Charles Horace Huskerson

Charles Horace Huskerson of Waco passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, at Waco Memorial Park. He will be in state at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home beginning Wednesday afternoon. Horace was born November 12, 1911 at Turnersville, TX, the youngest of seven children of John and Eddith Huskerson. He and his wife, Katherine Kitty Day Huskerson, who preceded him in death on September 3, 1991, were graduates of Baylor University. They met as freshmen at Baylor and married soon after graduation. They enjoyed more than 54 years of marriage. Horace was an employee of Baylor for several years, both as a student and later as a member of the regular staff. During WWII, he served 3 ½ years on active duty as a First Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Ordinance Department and was released to the Army Reserve. In 1957, he began a long career in the Urban Renewal program, first as Assistant Executive Director of the Waco Urban Renewal Agency. The Agency was responsible for delivering more than 250 acres of cleared land to Baylor for its “new campus”. He retired in mid-1985 as Director of the Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority. He was a long time member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco. He was a Master Mason, a member of both the York and Scottish Rite Masonic bodies and a Shriner. In later years he was active in Baylor affairs, being a member of the Ex-Students Association, the Heritage Club, Old Main Society, Life Member of the Baylor Founders Association and was a “Baylor Believer”. Horace and his wife enjoyed many years as RVers and traveled throughout the United States and Canada. He is survived by his son, James D. Jimmy Huskerson and his wife, Cathy, and two grandsons, Tyler and Adam, all of Oklahoma City; several nephews; and a multitude of friends.
