TURNER, CHARLES R. BUD Charles R. Bud Turner, age 84 of Waco joined his family and friends in heaven Friday, August 15, 2003 after his battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at 10am Monday, August 18 at Columbus Ave. Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Turner was born in Waco September 9, 1918; he was a lifetime resident of Waco and a lifelong member of Columbus Ave. Baptist Church from cradle roll to Young Businessmen’s Class. He was an outstanding athlete and sports fan. A member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, he won the State Tennis Championship three times twice in straight sets and was defeated in the finals at Forest Lawn, New York by Bobby Riggs for National Champion. He also served on the board of directors of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and was a low handicap golfer and Baylor Bear Supporter. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Vivian Turner of Waco; son, Randy; daughter in law, Kathy; granddaughters, Michelle Unwin and Stephanie Schaeffer and their husbands and sons David Unwin and Alex Polly all of Dallas; and sister, Ella Mae Taliaferro of Waco. Honorary pallbearers are Julian Oates, Larry Cook, Fred Lee, Bob Cervenka, Bob Claypool, Claude Carter, Richard Jackson, Cappy Crow, Richard Unwin and Jon Schaeffer.
