Charles Ray Roberts December 2, 1929 – January 15, 2007 Charles Ray Roberts passed away January 15, 2007 at Wesley Woods Alzheimer Care Center. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 18 at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 17 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Ray was born in Gatesville, TX on December 2, 1929 to Ben and Minnie Roberts. He played football for the Gatesville Hornets where he earned the nickname “Burr Head” playing with former Baylor football coach Cotton Davidson. Ray switched sports to fast pitch softball where he pitched for many years with various pro softball teams. In the mid 60’s Ray moved to Waco and opened the Top Cat Lounge. In 1969 Ray began managing the Showtime Club which operated under his guidance until his death. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Frances Pollard, Mildred Duncan, N.M. Nail and brother Sherwood Roberts. He is survived by his wife, Mrylene Roberts of Chalk Bluff; brother, Ben Roberts, Jr. and wife, Ruth of China Spring; sons, Keith Roberts of Hewitt and Randy R. Roberts and wife, Teri of Robinson, stepson, Jackie McDow of Chalk Bluff and stepdaughter, Nancy Bledsoe of Stephenville. Grandchildren are April Roberts, Randy Roberts Jr., Ashley Roberts, Joey Brooks, Tiffany Daughtry and Nicole McDow and also four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Brad Wilson, John Ash, Roger Lane, Jerry Hamilton, Jackie McDow, Robby Campbell, Ricky Rasberry, Sammy Robert and Jeff Smith. We will always remember Ray Roberts as a man that would give you the shirt off his back plus money to buy you a new one on your way home. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family and everyone who knew him. SET ONE – We love you Ray. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wesley Woods Alzheimer Care Center or the charity of choice.
