Charles V. Bennett, Jr.

Dr. Charles “Chip” Bennett, Jr., age 75, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Baylor Scott and White Hospital. Services will be 1:00 p.m. September 23, 2024, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home with The Reverend Samantha Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Chip was born in Newport News, Virginia on June 26, 1949. He and his family moved to Plainfield, Indiana several years later. At the age of 11, he moved to Tullahoma, Tennessee. There, he attended Tullahoma High School. While attending college at the University of the South at Sewanee, he met his future wife, Rosalyn Holder, on a blind date which was set up by Chip’s brother, Doug. Chip graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. Two years later, he and Rosalyn were married in May 1973 and have been married for 51 years. He graduated from medical school at the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis, Tennessee. He completed an obstetrical/gynecology residency in 1979. Also, during the same year, their only child, Alicia, was born. After a hunting trip to west Texas, he decided to move his family to San Angelo, Texas in 1983. In 1994, Chip moved his medical practice to Palestine, Texas where he retired in 2013 after an amazing career of delivering thousands of babies. In 2022, Chip and Rosalyn moved to China Spring to be closer to their daughter Alicia, son-in-law Jim, and grandchildren Reid and Kate.

Chip was preceded in death by his father, Charles V. Bennett, Sr. and his mother, Mary Noble Bennett.

Survivors are his wife, Rosalyn; daughter, Alicia Halbert and son-in-law, Jim; grandson, Reid Halbert; granddaughter, Kate Halbert; brother, Doug Bennett and wife Cathy; son, Charlie Hickerson; brother, Greg Bennett and wife Peri; nephew, Scott Bennett; niece, Katie Mathieson and husband Alex; great nephew, Ben Mathieson; brother-in-law, Donovan, and wife Patricia.

Pallbearers will be Greg Bennett, Doug Bennett, Scott Bennett, Jim Halbert, Reid Halbert, Donovan Holder, Jack Monsisvais, Huston Jones, James Ferguson, and Dr. Michael Gorby.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
