Charles Weldon Barrett February 6, 1921 – April 11, 2009 Charles Weldon Barrett, 88, of Waco, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at his home. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Charles was born in Tulia, Texas, and grew up in Comanche, Texas. He attended Comanche High and joined the Coast Guard in 1940 and served until 1945. He married Jeanne Tucker Barrett in 1950 and lived in Waco. Charles worked for Darden Building Company from 1947 until starting Barrett Construction Company in 1963. He was twice President of the Association of General Contractors Waco Chapter. He was an avid barbershop quartet singer and chartered two new chapters of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., and was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Charles is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanne; sons, Terry and wife, Christine, Jerry and wife, Carol, and Don and wife, Jeanne; daughter, Amy Dalrymple and husband, Gary Payne; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Juanita Barrett. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Austin Ave., Waco, Texas 76701; Associated General Contractors of America, Waco Chapter, AGC Scholarship Fund, 4500 West Waco Drive, Waco TX 76710; or S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A..
