BERGER, CHARLIE Charlie Henry Berger, age 81, of Waco passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at a local hospital. Services will be 9:30AM Friday, August 17th at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 1124 Washington Ave. with Rev. Isidore Rozycki officiating. Interment will follow at Mustang Prairie Cemetery, Kosse, TX. Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00PM, Thursday, August 16th at the funeral home. Mr. Berger was born January 3, 1920 in Leroy, TX to Frank Joseph and Rosalie Wimmer Berger. He grew up in the Leroy and Elk communities. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, Victory Ribbon, one Service Stripe and five Overseas Service Bars. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Downing Bros. Construction for many years before his retirement in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 121 and VFW Post 2148. He was an avid fisherman and a friend to all. His parents, four brothers, two sisters, and his wife, the former Lois Griffin, preceded him in death. Survivors include: Daughter: Carolyn Jean Berger of Waco Brother: Robert S. Berger and wife, Helen of Auburn, AL Sisters: Eleanor Barton and husband, Charles of Corsicana Otillie Milliken and husband, Spencer of Nacogdoches Along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
