Charlotte Aronson Labens, age 90, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024, at The Legacy Willow Bend in Plano, Texas.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Rodef Sholom Cemetery, with Harry Harelik officiating.
Charlotte was born in Waco, Texas on February 18, 1933. She graduated from Waco High School where she was active on the debate team and active in Young Judaea youth group. After graduating high school, she went to the University of Texas at Austin where she was President of her sorority. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1955 with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree.
Charlotte married the love of her life, Maurice Uriah Labens in 1954, and their union lasted for 69 years. After graduating from the University of Texas, Charlotte and Maurice lived in Houston followed by Harlingen, Texas. They moved to Waco in 1959 where they lived for 61 years and made life-long friends.
Charlotte went back to school in the late 1960’s and earned her teaching certificate from Baylor University. She taught elementary school followed by a long career running the Waco Jewish Federation office, after which she worked for Labens Appliance and TV managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. She was an active member of Temple Rodef Sholom, served on multiple non-profit boards in Waco and was beloved wife to Maurice, beloved Mom to David and Vicki and beloved Mimi to her grandchildren.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Uriah Labens; and by her mother and father, Lena Katz Aronson and Jake David Aronson.
She is survived by her son, David Labens; and grandchildren, Emily “Alex”, Jacob and Mayim Labens; her daughter, Vicki Shiller and husband, Brian Shiller and grandchildren, Marissa Bethke and husband, Josh Bethke and Michael Shiller and girlfriend Tammy Schisler; as well as her nieces and nephews.
