Chester Lee Harris, 88, passed away September 12, 2016. Funeral Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 17, at Western Heights Baptist Church, with Pastor Kip Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Chester was born in the Crossroads community near Malakoff, Texas on August 25, 1928 to Ross Enoch and Willie Bea (Woodward) Harris. Throughout his youth, he lived in several states including Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi while his father worked in flood control building levees. Chester graduated from Troup High School, class of 1945, and the University of Texas in 1949. He was a Registered Pharmacist for Heights Pharmacy from June 1, 1949 to December 27, 2002, except for 2 years while he served in the U.S. Army, Army of Occupation in Germany, working in a medical supply unit. He also worked as a relief Pharmacist at Circle Drug. Chester was quite the gentleman and loved his family. He had great faith in the Lord throughout his life and enjoyed his attendance at Western Heights Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Enoch Harris and William Harris; and two sons, Claude Harris and David “Brian” Harris. Chester is survived by his son, Michael G. Harris and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Tanci Hommel and husband, James; Sheena Dudik and husband, Jeremy; David Brian Harris, Jr; Ashley Margeson and husband, Kyle; one brother, Marvin Harris and wife, Sandra; former daughter-in-law, Rita Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all the nurses and staff with Providence Hospice. Memorials may be made to Western Heights Baptist Church, Providence Hospice, or a charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
