Claudia Augusta Fickel passed away Saturday, July 24, 2005 at the age of 82. Graveside services will be at 3:30 pm Tuesday, July 26 at Rosemound Cemetery with Bishop Nathan Hilton officiating and Alan Mayfield conducting. Claudia was born August 30, 1922 in Port Arthur, Texas. She was a graduate of Crawford High School and Waco School of Business. Claudia was a long-time resident of the Moody area. She loved the country and missed it terribly when ill health caused her to move to Waco. She was an avid gardener and taught gardening and homemaking skills for many years at her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She took in stray animals even though she was allergic to them. With poor health and little money, she managed as many as 40 animals including horses and sheep at a time for many years. She was a remarkable genealogist who compiled many generations of her own family history and helped others research their family lines as well. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry William Fickel. She is survived by one brother, A. Gerald Fickel and wife Laverne of Ft. Worth, Tx.; a step-sister, Stella Mae Matthews of Crawford and a niece, Lonnie Hamel of Ft. Worth.
