Clifton Sheppard Torrence November 16, 1921 - June 8, 2007 Clifton Sheppard Torrence of Plano passed away Friday, June 8, 2007 at his residence. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 13 at Waco Memorial Park with Rev. Richard Rust officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.Tuesday, June 12 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco, Tx. Cliff was born November 16, 1921 in Waco, TX to Richard Hurley Torrence and Kathryn Sheppard Torrence. Clifton graduated from Waco High School and attended Baylor University. Cliff joined the National Guard in 1939 and served with the 36th Division, 143rd Regiment, Company M in North Africa and Italy. He received a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. He retired with rank of Major from the Army Reserve on October 29, 1964. He retired after 35 years as an insurance executive with Gulf Insurance Group in 1986. Cliff has been a lifelong Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Hurley Torrence, Jr.; sisters, Betty Palmer and Dixie Torrence and step-mother, Bess Torrence. Cliff is survived by his wife of 61 years, Claudell Overton Torrence of Plano; daughter, Cathy Feist and husband, James of Highland Village; son, Craig Overton Torrence and wife, Rosie of Flower Mound; Grandchildren who knew him as PawPaw, Laurie Shipman and husband Michael, Valarie Jackson and husband Mark, Cliff Torrence and Drew Torrence; three great grandsons, Cody and Dylan Shipman and Ben Jackson; sister, Glenda Goodrich and husband Vernon; sister-in-law, Pat Mason and husband Warren and their children, Stan Mason and family and Lynn Mason; as well as several nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Hugh Rogers, Ralph Bryan, Tom Hinson, and Warren Mason. The family wishes to give special thanks to caregivers, Vitas Hospice and Ultimate Homecare Services. Memorial donations may be made to West Texas Boys Ranch, 10223 Boys Ranch Rd., San Angelo, TX., 76904-9989.
