COL. FREDERICK A. TROMBLEY, SR., U. S. ARMY RET. Col. Frederick A. Trombley, Sr., U. S. Army Ret., 85, formerly of Waco died Saturday, August 24, 2002 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, August 30 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Rev. Melvin Dornak officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 1124 Washington Ave. Col. Trombley was born June 23, 1917 in Bloomfield, Connecticut to Frederick A. Trombley, III and Agnus Furlong Trombley. He married Mildred Alberta Blake of Waco March 30, 1944. He was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother, Farrell Trombley and his loving bride of 53 years. He played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals until WWII interrupted his pitching career. Col. Trombley spent 28 years in the U.S. Army where he rose from a “buck” private in 1940 to a full colonel upon retirement in 1968. He served in the European Campaign in WWII and later in the Korean Conflict. After retirement from the army, he earned his degree in Occupational Health and Safety, which led to his position as head of the Occupational Safety and Health Dept. at Texas State Technical Institute, as it was then known. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the board of Reicher Catholic High School for three years. Col. Trombley was respected and admired by all who met him and loved by all who knew him. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Dr. Mark Hofstetter and their three children, Cora, Ben and Jake all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Sandy Trombley of Carrollton and their daughters, Gabby of Waco and Dannie of Carrollton, brothers, George Trombley of Schroon Lake, New York and Bob Trombley and wife, Fran of East Granby, Connecticut.
