Michael Corey McPeak, 50, of Lorena, a most cherished son and brother, died Friday, December 22, 2022 at his home.
Corey was born February 11, 1972 in Waco to Tom and Pam McPeak. He was the youngest of two children, but an equal in his brother’s eyes. They were best friends until the end. The family moved to Woodway in 1979 where Corey attended Midway School District. He loved soccer, his friends, and took pride in his lawn care business. After graduating from Midway High School in 1990, Corey moved to Austin to attend University of Texas. Full of ambition and drive, he worked at UPS and MCI to support himself while attending college. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1995. After graduating Corey worked for Dell Computer for several years before moving back home to his family that had relocated to Lorena. He was pleased and proud to have been asked to go into a new business, Peaks Concrete Pumping, with his father and brother.
Sadly, just months after starting this business, tragedy struck and impacted this family greatly and changed lives forever. In 2002, Corey was involved in an auto accident that rendered him quadriplegic, but he was a resilient young man and a trooper. He never let being a ‘quad’ slow him down. He continued his education by attending graduate school at Baylor University, the college his parents attended. He kept busy at home with a whole slew of friends and hobbies. He took pride in his home and property, always making sure grass was cut, trees and flowers planted, and looking clean and orderly. He never viewed himself as disabled and in turn no one treated him any differently. His body had been broken for some time, but he is now FREE. Free to walk. Free to fly.
Corey was preceded in death by his father, Tom McPeak, who died in 2008.
He is survived by his mother, Pamela Cue McPeak; his best friend and brother, Brady and Brady’s sons, Will and Casey; his aunt, Kathy Averitt, whom he cared for dearly; his cousins, Kissy, Daniel, Richard, and Michael Averitt; Stacy and Kim Coone, and Julie Bradshaw. He also leaves his trusted caregivers, Philip, Martha, Chastity, Andy, and Chip and more friends than anyone can even count.
Corey was a one of a kind person and he will be missed by many.
To celebrate his life the family invites you to Lorena on Corey’s birthday, February 11, 2023, to share your special stories that connected you to him. If you cannot attend, please plant a tree in his honor. He loved watching them grow.
