KLINGMAN, CRESTON Creston S. Klingman, 88, of Waco formerly of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2003 at a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 23 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jimmie Johnson officiating. A memorial service in Galesburg will be announced at a later date. Mr. Klingman was born December 7, 1915 in Wichita, Kansas, where he was raised and educated. He married Doris L. Bloomenshine May 18, 1939. He received his bachelor’s degree from York College in York, Nebraska. He did graduate work at University of Michigan and University of Kansas. He taught music and directed band and orchestra at Southwestern College in Winnfield, Kansas. He served in the Navy in Washington, D. C., during World War II, directing the Navy Glee Club, which made weekly radio broadcasts. Professor Klingman taught music and directed the college choir at Knox College in Galesburg for 30 years. He also directed Galesburg Community Chorus and church choirs at First Baptist and First Presbyterian in Galesburg. He continued teaching voice and piano at Knox College until 2001. He will be remembered for his deep concern for his students, his generosity, his good sense of humor, and his love of word play. He moved to Waco, Texas, in 2002 to be near his son and to have the chance to watch his grandson play basketball and baseball. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waco. Survivors include son, Berry J. Klingman and wife Mary Lynn of Waco; grandchildren, Peter David Klingman of Waco; Lindsay Nguyen of San Antonio, and Evan Taft of Waco; two great grandsons; and sister, Miriam Joyce Moore and husband Donovan of Wichita, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Thomas W. Williams and Creston S. Klingman Scholarship Fund at Knox College or to the Knox College Memorial Book Fund.
