Crystal Ruth Hoffmeyer

October 21, 1925 — May 10, 2024

Crystal Ruth Schneider Hoffmeyer, 98, passed away May 10, 2024, at Champions Cove in Duncanville, Texas

Chris’s journey ended securely in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., June 8, 2024, in the chapel of First Baptist Church Waco, Texas. Per her wishes, her body has been donated to the Willed Body Program of UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Foundation of Waco.

Chris was born on October 21, 1925, in Ellis Grove, Illinois to Vera Rickart Schneider and Carl Schneider. A move to LaGrange, Missouri and on to a college campus known as Hannibal LaGrange College would foretell Chris’s future as she would spend 45 years associated in some capacity with college life, which gave her a deep love and appreciation for young people. In l944, she married Oscar Hoffmeyer, Jr. in Jefferson City, Missouri. They met on a blind date while both were in high school. Oscar preceded her in death in 2012.

Prior to her sons being born, Chris was employed by the Center for Disease Control with an office based in Jefferson City, Missouri. She was a homemaker during the time her children were growing up stating that every day was as delightful as a “three-ring circus.” Later, she was employed at First Baptist Church of Waco and, subsequently, would spend a wonderfully fulfilling 23 years at Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana in the office of vice president for student development and later, as an executive secretary in the office of the vice president for business affairs/planning.

Music and writing were basics in her life and as an extension of that love, one of the channels for expression was dancing. She loved it in all forms. She also adored keeping up with friends through the old-fashioned means of letters and cards.

In addition to her husband Oscar, Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Vera, and Carl Schneider; her only sibling, Anna Belle Tipton; and a beloved niece, Billie Joy Evans. Three nieces survive.

Her “God-given purpose in life,” is the way Chris described the births of three sons who survive and who married delightful helpmates: Michael C and Debbie of Duncanville, Texas; Randal O and Gretchen of Seattle, Washington; and Timothy Mark and Patti of Buda, Texas.

Chris is also survived by six grandchildren: Scott (Jessica), of Colleyville, Texas (children Dax and Peyton); Lindy (Cody) of Lewisville, Texas (children Bailey, Zoey, Lily and Audrey); Evan of Indianapolis, Indiana; Olivia (Alissa) of Seattle, Washington; Hannah (Connor) of Seattle, Washington and Hope of Denver Colorado.

We invite you to leave a message or memory of Chris on her “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
