Cynthia Burkhart Lassiter

January 22, 1934 — February 27, 2021

Cynthia Burkhart Lassiter of Waco, Texas, passed peacefully on February 27, 2021, at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital with her husband, children and grandchildren at her side. Her eulogy and celebration of life will take place at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, at 11:00 a.m., March 6, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. for family and close friends. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Cynthia was born in Ballinger, Texas, to Harry Gordon Burkhart and Josephine Burris Burkhart on January 22, 1934, and had two sisters, Josephine Burkhart Graham and Harriet Burkhart. After graduating from Ballinger High School, she attended Texas State College for Women where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She married Don Sebe Lassiter on August 7, 1955, in Ballinger. After living in Ft. Worth and Graham, they eventually settled in Olney, Texas, where they lived for 40 years. Cynthia was a beloved kindergarten teacher for 22 years in the Olney Independent School District. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed hosting family and friends, was an excellent cook and travelled throughout the world to see her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Don; her children, Dr. Alan Lassiter and wife, Jeanne, of Knoxville, Tennessee, Gina Minshew and husband, Don, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Dr. Terry Lassiter and wife, Vicki, of Waco, and Kristi Phillips and husband, Miles, of San Antonio, Texas. She has 13 grandchildren, Ashley and Matt Googe of Knoxville, Scott and Emily Childs of Memphis, Tennessee, Brittany Lassiter of Nashville, Lindsey Lassiter of Knoxville, Patrick and Gennie Childs of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Graham and Christina Childs of Knoxville, Josh and Meredith Lassiter of Atlanta, Georgia, Emily and Daniel Abernathy of Austin, Matt and Chelsea Lassiter of San Antonio, Elizabeth of Jason Harris of Austin, Ellen and Lane Soward of Dallas, Dennis Minshew of Jacksonville, Florida, and Ben Phillips of Waco.
