D G Melton

D G Melton died on May 5, 2021, in Waco, Texas. Graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 13, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. James Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. He was born June 14, 1924, in Allen, Texas, the fourth son of Dibrel G. and Lillian Mayo Whisenant Melton. He married Patsy Ruth Harvey August 24, 1947, in Waco. For 35 years he was employed by Harvey Advertising Company, then for 10 years as financial administrator for Calvary Baptist Church, retiring in March of 2000. He was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and active choir member at Calvary for many years. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 70 years. During World War II, he served with the 84th Infantry Division in the European Theater until a previous training injury caused his reassignment to limited duty, where he served in the headquarters of a unit supervising German prisoner of war camps. After the war he reentered Baylor University, graduating in 1949. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans Associations. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 plus years, Patsy Ruth; three brothers, Robert G. Melton, Lloyd D. Melton and Milton E. Melton; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Jean Harvey Wallace. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Larry B. Melton and wife, Barbara, and Richard A. Melton and wife, Ann; one granddaughter, Kathleen Michelle Melton; two step-grandsons, James and Stephen Fisher; sister-in-law, Billie Dean Harvey Canterbury; three nieces and one nephew; several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be David Lintz, Tom Purdy, Richard McCall, Tim Smith, Les Palmer, Jim Hitt, Jonathan Grant and James Roberts. Rather than flowers, the deceased would prefer that all memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church or to Compassion Ministries.
