Dan Caylor January 21, 1926 March 21, 2009 Dan Caylor, 83, a longtime resident of Waco, passed from this life Saturday, March 21, 2009 at his home and into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 24 at Dan's home church, Woodway First United Methodist with Rev. John A. Dirk and Dr. Jeff Smith officiating. Family interment will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown, TX. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2009, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Dan was born January 21, 1926, in Bokchito, OK to James Garland and Annie Carter Caylor, the second of six children. After the age of three, the family moved to Lockney, TX and ran a family farm. He entered the army March 16, 1944 and served in World War II with the 1255th combat engineers where they fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Once returning to the Plainview area after the war, he married Doris Lavern Thomason on December 15, 1946. They had three daughters: Sharon, Dana and Donita. Between 1946 and 1955, Dan and Doris went into dairy farming, custom bailing, combining and trucking. In 1955, they moved to Littlefield, TX and then to Levelland, TX, where they owned and operated an auto supply store until 1970. During these years they also did charter flying, flew parachute jumpers, owned another service station, race track, beauty shop, gravel pit, trucking company and even a taxi company in Del Rio, TX. In 1970, after the girls were married, they leased the auto supply business and moved to Seagoville, TX and went into the golf course sand business and ranching until 2006. They then sold everything, except for the ranch in Waco where they raised registered longhorn cattle. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, J. L. Caylor and Jerry Caylor. Those left to cherish his memory include wife of 62 years, Doris, three daughters, Sharon Gillespie and husband R. T. of Waco, Dana Dickerson and husband Floyd of Lone Oak, Donita Cato and husband Terry of Vernon; nine grandchildren, Keith Blair and wife Donnia of Fort Worth, Tonya Tapp and husband Michael of Dallas, Shanna Vick and husband James of Mesquite, Jamie Prince and husband Matt of Lone Oak, Matt Wright and wife Tasha of Lone Oak, Kelley Cato and wife Tracy of Corinth, Shelley Streit and husband Jason of Vernon, Steven Cato and wife Dacia of Lewisville, John Cato and wife Amilia of Chillicothe; thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by two sisters; Pat Duyka of El Paso and Rosemary Norfleet and husband John of Plainview; a brother Don Caylor and wife Lana of Sun City. Pallbearers will be Keith Blair, Kelley Cato, Steven Cato, Matt Wright, John Cato and Martin Delgado. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Woodway, 21000 Woodway Drive, Woodway, TX 76712.
