NIMMO, DAN DEAN Professor Dan Dean Nimmo, age 71, of Waco, passed away at his home on Friday, September 10, 2004. Services will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday, September 16 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel at 6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco, Texas with Harry Howard officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, September 17, 2004 at Starr Cemetery near Elkhart. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 pm Wednesday, September 15, in the Garden Room at the funeral home. Professor Nimmo was born June 23, 1933 in Springfield, Missouri, the only child of James Wesley and Elizabeth Baker Nimmo. Professor Nimmo earned his undergraduate degree at University of Missouri-Columbia in 1955. He then attended Vanderbilt University as a Woodrow Wilson Scholar, where he completed his masters degree in 1956. After interrupting his studies to serve for two years as an officer in the U.S. Army in Europe, he returned to Vanderbilt, where in 1962 he earned the doctor of philosophy degree in political science. His faculty positions included appointments in political science, journalism and communication at University of Wichita, Texas Tech University, University of Houston, University of Missouri, University of Tennessee and University of Oklahoma. After his retirement from University of Oklahoma in 1995, Professor Nimmo taught as a visiting distinguished professor of political science at Baylor University. He is author, co-author or editor of 35 books and scores of articles, all addressing some aspect of political persuasion, a subject he studied, researched and taught for half a century. Professor Nimmo is survived by his wife, Jan Trice Nimmo; daughter, Victoria Nimmo of Waco; sons, Gregory Nimmo of Chicago, Larry Nimmo of New York City, and by numerous cousins. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Benjamin Franklin House in London.
