September 12, 1949 — November 24, 2001

MULLONEY, DAN Veteran Central Texas photojournalist Dan Mulloney, 52, died at his home after a long illness on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey at 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Mulloney was born on Sept. 12, 1949 in Tampa, Florida. His family later moved to Fort Worth where he attended school and graduated from high school. Throughout much of the 1970s, he worked for Brown and Root Construction Co. as a pipe fitter, but he gave up construction for photography after attending Texas State Technical College in Waco.Mr. Mulloney began his career as a television news photographer in 1984 at KWTX in Waco. Over the next 15 years he photographed everything from prisoners to politicians. He won national acclaim for the videotape he shot during the federal raid on the Branch Davidian Compound outside of Waco on Feb. 28, 1993. Mr. Mulloney and reporter John McLemore followed the trailers in which federal agents were riding onto the Branch Davidian property and captured the only television images of one of the worst days in U.S. law enforcement history. After the shootout, they provided a vital communications link with area emergency agencies, and later they helped remove seriously injured agents to a staging area where ambulances were waiting. They were credited with having helped save the lives of several wounded agents. Mr. Mulloney is survived by two daughters, Haley, 11, and Ryhan, 14, both of Fort Worth; a sister, Helen P. Mulloney of Beverly, Mass., and a stepmother, Bonnie Mulloney, of Sterling, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the charity of your choice. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
