Daniel Eugene Cripe

July 12, 1918 — April 2, 2010

Dr. Daniel Eugene Cripe July 12, 1918 – April 2, 2010 On the morning of April 2, 2010, Dr. Daniel Eugene Cripe, 91, of Waco Texas passed away peacefully after living a passionate life of service. Warmly referred to as “Doc”, with his lunch packed from the night before and a clean smock waiting to be donned, he had a full-load of patients waiting to be seen that morning. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 7201 Viking Dr in Waco, followed by a private graveside burial. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 6, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Born, July 12, 1918, in Los Angeles, California, to James and Susan Cripe, “Doc” survived a serious illness early in life against all odds. His survival was marked by his strength of character and the palpable impact he would, in turn, leave on all those who knew him. “Doc” lived life with valor and passion; playing baseball in the minor leagues, graduating from the Los Angeles School of Chiropractic Medicine and serving in the Air Force. During his time in the service, he was stationed in Texas as an x-ray technician and surgical assistant. It was during this time, he met and married his first beloved wife, Geraldine Stampp Cripe. Together, they had two daughters, Susan and Geraldine. He and Geraldine chose Waco to ground their family and together built his chiropractic practice. When he was not busy serving his patients and his family, “Doc” also held important positions within his ward and stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had an unwavering devotion to the gospel and its principles and would travel around the state in service of his church. In 1976, following the passing of his wife, Geraldine, “Doc” met and married Arlene Prescott Cripe in Waco. Arlene assisted in his chiropractic practice, and the two lived happily until her passing in 1997. He had great esteem and adoration for his family, and the support they had given him in pursuing medicine, gardening and church responsibilities. During “Doc’s” time as a chiropractor, he served five generations of patients for sixty-three years. His physical strength and mental acuity were products of a life lived purely and without need for medication intervention. What set him apart was that he did not solely focus on remediating his patients of their ailments; he was an empathic ear, a generous soul, and he used his heart and hands as agents of healing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Susan Cripe; wives, Geraldine Stampp and Arlene Prescott Cripe; and daughter, Susan Trapp. He is survived by his daughter, Geri Sorenson of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Carol Johnson, Patti Battles Derrin, Dan Sorenson Laura, Libby Jackson; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mackenzie, Alexandria and Payton.
