GILLAND, DANIEL Daniel Richard Gilland, 57 of Corpus Christi, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 27, 2004. A remembrance service with military honors will be held at 3:30pm Wednesday, December 1 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room, Waco, Texas. Also a service will be held Friday, December 3 at TMHS, Corpus Christi. Master Chief Gilland was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 12, 1947. He retired as Command Master Chief at Great Lakes Naval Base in 1989 after 24 years of service. Master Chief had been teaching NJROTC and English at Tuloso Midway High School for nine years with his partner and friend, Commander Russ McPadden. Master Chief loved traveling with his wife, spending time with his grandsons and golfing with his buddy Rodney Perrin. He also enjoyed the special bonds he made with all his cadets at Tuloso Midway. He was proud of his family, career and military service. He was loved by many and will be missed forever. His life was cut short, but he lived it to the fullest. Daniel is survived by his wife of 36 years, Maria del Carmen; son, Daniel Jose Gilland and wife, Linda and son, Alex of Lewisville; daughter, Victoria Ervin and husband, Burt and sons, Justin and Grant of China Spring; sister, Judy Gilland and daughter and granddaughters, Becky, Jada and Jasmine of Grand Rapids, Michigan; uncle, Richard Sweet of Phoenix and cousins, Bill and Rose Wiersma of Grand Rapids. If you would like to pay your respects to him, in lieu of flowers, his wife Carmen, has set up a scholarship in his name.
