Carol Dathene Crump passed away with family at her side on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at a local hospital in Waco after a brief courageous battle with leukemia. Graveside Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 18, at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Ernie Christie officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Dathene was born on May 22, 1936, in Moody, Texas, to Frank and Myra Tindell. She graduated from Lorena High School in 1954. She worked at William Cameron during her early twenties, during which time she met her future husband. Dathene married Thomas “Tommy” Crump on May 6, 1961. She had two children, whom she cherished with unyielding enthusiasm throughout her life. Dathene was the kind of person who always put others first and greeted people with a sweet, warm smile. She enjoyed a variety of activities throughout her life, which included playing tennis, doing crossword puzzles, reading, traveling, watching classic TV shows, cooking, seeing movies, going to lunch with her friends, and above all, spending time with her family. Her neighbors admired her pride in mowing her lawn and planting flowers. Dathene’s grandsons dotingly referred to her as “Nannie” and being a grandmother was her ultimate highlight. Dathene maintained her indomitable spirit, even in the wake of fighting leukemia. She will be missed by her children and grandsons, as well as other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Myra Tindell; her husband, Tommy Crump; and her brother, Norman Tindell. She is survived by her son, Damon Crump and wife, Karen, of Waco; her two grandsons, Tommy and Alex Crump; her daughter, Elaine Crump of Dallas; her sister, Edith and husband, Bobby Meador, of Lorena; her sister, Martha Tindell of Lorena; her brother, David Tindell and wife, Stella, of Wells; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our "Tribute Wall" at www.WHBfamily.com.
