David Samuel Threadgill, Sr.

Threadgill, David S. In the presence of his Lord, David Samuel Threadgill, Sr., passed from this life at the age of 81, on June 16, 2005. Services will be Monday, June 20 at 1:30 PM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev Jerry Freedman and Rev. Ronnie Holmes officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, June 19 from 6 to 8:00 PM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque. David was born April 16, 1924 to parents Charles and Susie Threadgill, one of thirteen children in Waco, Texas. He spent his whole life in the Waco area. He met and married Mary Ellen King in 1942 and they were happily married for 62 years. That same year, he joined the Air Force during World War II. He was a paratrooper in the 36th Division of the National Guard and obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. After leaving the service, David attended Baylor University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. For 20 years he worked as an accountant for Weldon Youngblood before opening his own business, Threadgill Tax service with wife Mary. David was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was involved in many activities in the community. In his early years, he had a paper route, peddled vegetables with his dad and picked cotton to help his family. After he and Mary started their own family, he was an involved father as a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Waco #92 and the Shriners. He was the ex-Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythius, President of Boys Baseball and founder of the Baseball Complex on North 41st and a lifetime Director of Youngblood Park in Robinson. He was a charter member of Bethel Methodist Church in Robinson. During retirement, he and Mary traveled the United States with their motor home club. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Violet Staley, Lottie Rowan and Hazel T. Ford and two brothers, L. C. Threadgill and Norman E. Threadgill. He is survived by his loving wife Mary; one daughter, Mary Lanelle Threadgill of Robinson; three sons, David S. Threadgill, Jr. of Lewisville, Texas, Gerry D. Threadgill and wife, Candace of Robinson and Brian D. Threadgill and wife, Charlotte of Magnolia, Texas; six granddaughters, Meritte Threadgill, Angela Doolittle, Celeste Doolittle, Stacy Wilson, Melissa Threadgill and Phylicia Threadgill; two grandsons, Craig Threadgill and wife, Nichol and Bradley Threadgill; two great granddaughters, Aimee Wilson and Katherine Wilson; one sister, Geraldine McDonald and husband Donald of Garland, Texas; two brothers, Carl B. Threadgill and wife, Louise, of Robinson and Ronald Threadgill and wife, Billie, of Waco.
