Dawn was born January 11, 1927 in Waco to Joseph Charlie and Annie Davis. As a young girl she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and by His grace strived to serve Him throughout her life. With her gifts of service, compassion, music and unconditional love she served her family and many others with selfless deeds of kindness. She graduated from Crawford High School and attended Mary-Hardin Baylor and Baylor University until she married Neal Allen Nelson on April 5, 1947 at Shiloh Baptist Church. They shared over 38 years of marriage and friendship until his death on October 18, 1985. She was first a wife and mother. She also worked over 40 years outside of the home as a clerical typist for A.C. Uplegor & Co., and several subsequent accounting firms until she retired from Jaynes, Reitmeier, Boyd & Therrell ……. and still found time to serve the needs of others. Dawn loved life and people and lived each day to its fullest. Her faith inspired her to love others as she was loved, and give back to her family and others in gratitude for what she had received. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. She was a recognized fan at all of the ball games and school events of her grandchildren. She excelled in encouraging others through meals, visits, gifts and cards on special or needed occasions. Dawn was an active member of Western Heights Baptist Church for over 40 years. She was active in her Rachel Sunday School Class and the Crawford Birthday Girls. Dawn also enjoyed cooking and working in her yard.
