Delia Sanchez Trujillo

March 30, 1932 — November 18, 2021

Delia Trujillo passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Monday, November 22, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm, Sunday, November 21, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Delia was born March 30, 1932, in Dallas, Texas, to Joaquin and Trinidad Sanchez. She married the love of her life, Silverio Trujillo, November 19, 1950. They raised their family first in Dallas and because of their careers they moved their family to Waco. They continued to work at El Chico Restaurant for many years. In 1978 they opened their first restaurant, El Nopal, and soon after opened Trujillo’s Restaurant in 1981. Mom was an inspiration to all she came in contact with, be it her family, friends, or employees. She set an example of excellence in her work ethic, not only for her employees but for all her daughters. She was the voice of reason, always giving advice to her daughters. Holding our hands while giving advice, she was the foundation and support to her family. Mom enjoyed shopping with her daughters, gambling at Winstar, and bingo was a must every Monday. She also used to enjoy traveling with our daddy. Momma never officially retired from the restaurant since you could not keep her away from the family business. She continued to make her presence known and she will be greatly missed by her longtime employees and most of all by her many loyal customers. Mom was a good-hearted and giving woman. Many of her friendships with her customers began years ago and still continue to this day. What gives us comfort and peace is knowing that she is in Daddy’s arms again and dancing with the angels. She is survived by her daughters, Rosemary Rangel and husband Andrew; Irene Sanchez and husband Ernest; Yolanda Trujillo and husband Donnie; Janie Lopez, and Delia Trujillo, all of Waco; grandchildren, Christy Watley, Chris Rangel, Michelle Jimenez, Shay Rocha, Erica Cóntreras, Crystal Cóntreras, Zina Sanchez, Brandon Casarez, Brittany Chavez, Desiree Davila, John-Alex Lopez, Daylon Lopez and Daniel Ray Villafaña; and many, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their great appreciation to her caregivers D’Ann, Lola, Becky, and Denise for their attentive and competent care during our mother’s time of need, and also a big thank you to Kevin and everyone else with Saint Catherine’s Hospice for the great care given to our mother.
