Delmare Gerdes passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021. Services will be at 2pm, Friday, December 10, at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, with Rev. Aaron Zimmerman officiating. Visitation will be 5 – 7pm, Thursday, December 9, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Delmare was born on December 22, 1950, in McComb, Mississippi, to John and Cherrye Harris. She moved to Waco as a small child and graduated from Waco High School. She went on to attend the University of Memphis. She married Trey Gerdes on May 22, 1971. Together they have three children, and her family was her world. As her children grew up, she stayed involved in their lives by being Room Mother, PTA President, serving on the Booster Club, driving them to countless golf tournaments and being Chairwoman of events at their sorority and fraternity houses. Del enjoyed having a house full of kids. She was amazing in the kitchen and always had a home cooked meal ready for anyone that walked through the door. Every year she looked forward to her annual trip to the beach and holidays, especially Halloween where she hand-made costumes for the entire family. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Harris and Cherrye Benadom; and brother, Jay Harris. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Trey Gerdes of Waco; daughter, Jennie Gerdes of Dallas; son, Hank Gerdes and wife, Allison, of Austin; son, Stan Gerdes and wife, Sam, of Smithville; granddaughters, Emery and Annelise Gerdes; and grandson, Henry Gerdes, all of Austin. Pallbearers are Scott Baker, Bruce Barton, Stan Haddock, Trey Metz, Brooks Williams, and Pat Zachry. The family invites you to share a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
