Delores Eason Fain

September 21, 1932 — May 10, 2024

DeLores Eason Fain passed away Friday, May 10, 2024, surrounded by family at her home in Waco, Texas, after a brief illness.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Camp Memorial Cemetery, 1095 GA-54 E, Fayetteville, Georgia 30214.

DeLores was born on September 21, 1932, to Carlton and Mae Eason and raised in Doddridge, Arkansas. She graduated from Bright Star High School where she excelled in academics and basketball. After graduating, she entered Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas where she studied business.

She met John Maurice Fain at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, and they married on June 14, 1953 in Doddridge. Maurice and DeLores settled in Moultrie, Georgia where their two daughters, Melanie and Stephanie, were born.

DeLores and Maurice, for many years, served as pastor and wife of several Baptist churches in the Atlanta area. He and DeLores were founding members of Peachtree City Baptist Church in Peachtree City, Georgia. She was honored by the church when celebrating its 50th anniversary in the fall of 2022.

Their last pastorate was in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1995 through the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board.

DeLores was a committed Christian and Baptist, having professed her faith in Christ at the age of nine.

After Maurice’s death in 2010, DeLores moved to Waco, Texas to be near her daughter, Melanie. While always remaining a devoted Georgia Bulldog, DeLores quickly became a huge Baylor Bear fan, especially the ladies’ basketball team. She spent many hours watching and pulling for the Bears and the Bulldogs.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed volunteer ministry in crisis care pregnancy centers, Prison Fellowship, homeless care centers, Museum of the Bible in Washington DC, Billy Graham Crusade, and Samaritan’s Purse.

DeLores was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton, and Mae Eason; her husband, John Maurice Fain; sister, Marilyn Adcock; and grandson, Drew Battle.

She is survived by daughters, Melanie Smith (Alan), Waco, TX; Stephanie Battle (Don), Birmingham, AL; granddaughters, Katie Burch, Waco, TX and Audrey Smith, Dallas, TX; grandsons Dahler Battle (Elisabeth), Charlottesville, VA, Doug Battle, Los Angeles, CA, and Kyle Smith, North Little Rock, AR; as well as her great-grandson, Hugo Burch, Waco, TX.

The family would like to express thanks to the staff of Hewitt Rehabilitation and Wellness, Harbor Hospice, Visiting Angels, and especially DeLores’ caregiver, Sheila Hines.

In lieu of flowers, donations in DeLores’ memory may be made to Samaritan’s Purse Ministry at samaritanspurse.org or Amani Ya Juu at amaniafrica.org.
