Delton Del Ferrell Steed

Delton Ferrell Steed November 14, 1920 - March 23, 2011 Delton Ferrell Steed of Waco passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26, at Waco Memorial Park with the Rev. Brad St. Romain officiating. Del was born November 14, 1920, in Chidester, Arkansas, to Floyd and Jewell Steed. In 1945, he met Erline Harger in Meridian, Miss., and they were married in 1946. He worked as an air traffic controller for 30 years, retiring in 1973. After his retirement he held several other jobs, and he especially liked being one of the captains of the Brazos Queen Riverboat. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his infant grandchild, Jamie Steed. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Erline Harger Steed; two daughters, Lesli Steed McKinney and Marilyn Steed Keough; and son, Rusty Steed and wife, Nancy, all of Waco; honorary daughter, Carla Hernandez and husband, Luis; grandsons, Rusty Steed II, Jon Steed and Randy Steed and fiance, Rachel Majewski; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Alyssa, Cole and Schyluer; several cousins and many dear friends. Pallbearers are Rusty Steed, Rusty Steed II, Randy Steed, Jon Steed, Luis Hernandez and Mike Chaney. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels.
