Dennis Woodard September 9, 1942 – March 9, 2010 Dennis Woodard, of Hewitt, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his residence. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, with Judy Prather officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, prior to the service in the Chapel. Dennis was born September 9, 1942, in Gallup, New Mexico to Garland and Frances Woodard. Following his graduation from Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas, Dennis joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Rogers and the USS Salisbury Sound. Following his military service, Dennis returned to Amarillo where he attended West Texas State University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration. Dennis spent his professional career serving as city manager for several Texas communities but his greatest pleasure was serving the citizens of Hewitt, Texas for 23 years. He retired from the City of Hewitt in September of 2007. Dennis and his wife loved to travel and he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Dennis is preceded in death by his father, Garland Woodard and his infant daughter, Tiffany June. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Woodard; two daughters, Whitney Woodard and Corey Matos and husband, Tony; three step-sons, AJ Whipple and his wife, Jenny, Andrew Whipple and his wife, Katie, and Adam Whipple and his partner, Vance Roper. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Mia Matos, Joseph Whipple and Avery Whipple; his mother, Frances Woodard; his brothers, David Woodard and his wife, Penny, Frank Woodard and his wife, Lee, Alan Woodard and his wife, Linda, Steve Woodard and his wife, Debbie; his sister, Lori Jones and her husband, Mike; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Tony Matos, AJ Whipple, Andrew Whipple, Adam Whipple, Vance Roper and Wayne Olson. The family would like to thank everyone at Bluebonnet Hospice for their tender loving care and concern. Memorials may be made to Fuzzy Friends Rescue, PO Box 23406, Waco, TX, 76708, where Dennis adopted his beloved dogs, Harley and Marvin; or the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, PO Box 91840, Santa Barbara, CA, 93190-1840 where he received immeasurable support during his illness.
